Because the standards vary from state to state, taking an exam from another state isn't really out of the question. There are some areas of study that require special certification, though. Those are the areas that do not yet have nationwide accreditation standards.

While the national accreditation for non-nationally accredited programs has not yet been established, the major programs such as the CPA and the CMA (which were founded in 1930) are already self-accredited. Because of this, one does not need to take an exam from another state in order to be certified.

However, if one does wish to take an exam from another state in order to get a higher degree in legal knowledge, then they will have to sit for their certification in that state. This can be done either at the actual state examinations or online through an accredited online site.

Although those who have taken the state examinations are fully certified, they are not allowed to sit for the National examinations. They cannot earn the equivalent of a law degree by taking a national exam from another state. They can, however, take an examination from another state if they want to, provided that it is not a required or mandated requirement.

Some of the states with required CPA examinations are: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Missouri.

The accreditation of a law school will also determine which law schools accept the CPA exam. The top-rated law schools will usually accept any law school that comes up from the accredited universities or private and independent schools.

Although the CPA exams are not required by every state, they are required in a few states. Among the states that require the exams are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. Fortunately, for those of us who have worked long and hard for what we have, this doesn't seem to be a factor as we can work in any state that we like.

It will help if you know the differences between the national accreditation and the state and local requirements. By knowing this, you can make sure that you are prepared for your state requirements and, in fact, that you are preparing yourself to pass the CPA exams.

The National Accreditation is the highest level of certification. In addition to this, the program is recognized as the top program in the United States. The National Accreditation ensures that your program will be accepted in any area of study in any given state.

For those of us who are still in school and wish to go on to become licensed CPA examiners, the National Accreditation is vital. Most state boards have established those that have earned the National Accreditation to the requirement to practice in their state.
